IV Fluids at Home in Surrey & Kingston
GP assessment and IV fluids for suitable patients
If you are concerned about dehydration, our private GPs can assess whether treatment at home is appropriate.
Where clinically indicated and safe to provide at home, a VR Private Clinics GP can administer intravenous fluids and monitor your response.
We welcome enquiries from Guildford, Esher, Cobham, Kingston upon Thames, Thames Ditton and surrounding areas.
Your GP will assess your symptoms and decide whether oral treatment, IV fluids or hospital care is appropriate. IV treatment cannot be guaranteed before assessment.
For a medical emergency, call 999. Online and WhatsApp enquiries are not emergency services.

Medical assessment comes first
Dehydration can have different causes. Symptoms and the right treatment depend on the patient’s medical history and the severity of their illness.
Your doctor will consider your symptoms, medicines, relevant medical conditions and examination findings before recommending a plan.
Some patients can be managed with oral fluids or oral rehydration treatment. Others need urgent investigations or hospital monitoring.
When to contact us
You can enquire if you are concerned about dehydration after illness or difficulty maintaining fluid intake and want to check whether a home assessment is appropriate.
Tell our team:
-
The patient’s age and postcode.
-
The symptoms and how long they have been present.
-
Whether they are vomiting or have diarrhoea.
-
Whether they can drink and pass urine.
-
Any relevant heart or kidney conditions.
-
Current medicines and any fluid restriction.
If you have already been advised to attend hospital, follow that advice rather than waiting for a home visit.
What happens during the appointment?
GP assessment
Your doctor discusses your symptoms, medical history and medicines and carries out an appropriate examination.
Treatment decision
If IV fluids are appropriate, the GP explains the proposed treatment, alternatives, risks and monitoring arrangements and obtains consent.
If IV fluids are not appropriate, the doctor will explain the recommended next steps.
Treatment and reassessment
Fluids are administered through a small cannula in a vein. The type and rate depend on the individual assessment.
Your doctor monitors your response and explains whether further care or escalation is needed.
When home treatment may not be appropriate
Some patients need investigations or closer monitoring in hospital. Heart and kidney conditions can also affect whether IV fluids are suitable.
For confusion, difficulty waking, severe breathing difficulty or collapse, call 999.
For urgent concerns about dehydration, seek prompt advice through an urgent GP appointment or NHS 111. Do not delay urgent care while waiting for an enquiry response.
